I spent a lot more time this year revisiting albums from last year and previous than listening to new stuff. The lack of pressure was nice? Nonetheless, I did find some new LPs & EPs to like (slash hyperfocus on) this year.

This year’s list isn’t strictly my top albums (etc). A couple snuck in solely due to the fact I wrote so much about them. And one of my draft top 6 got crossed off because I barely wrote a sentence about it when I listened to it — surely it’s not important enough for the roundup!

( Read more... )I listened to less music than I would have liked these past few months, and I keep forgetting to buy songs on Bandcamp Friday. I accidentally blew out one earbud of my preferred pair and didn’t realize for weeks, then ended up switching between my spare good pair and my bad Apple pair during this period. During which I was trying to edit a fanvid. Imagine my surprise when I realized “Love of My Life” had a drumline? hahaha.

I won’t be doing a proper ranking this year as I just don’t have the energy. Instead, I’ve grouped albums, minis, and EPs arbitrarily into On Repeat, Really Like, Weird Music Section, Other: Pop Rock/Alt Rock, Other: Pop. The list clocks out at 22 albums etc.
Unless otherwise noted, all albums etc are Japanese. Bandcamp links provided where available, otherwise there’s a Spotify playlist at the end with picks from each album etc. Except for mel’s dayflower, which is only on Bandcamp!

Several albums I wanted to listen to this year all came out in December, which was stressful! I was already behind as I wasn’t as much into music this year; the only two albums I listened to on release day were Sakanaction and Harry Styles.
I think this is the first year I’ve managed four languages on my albums list.
