Monthly Listening: Feb 2026
Feb. 27th, 2026 10:11 pmAs a figure skating fan, those sure were an Olympics. At least Niina Petrõkina did away with a few more men.
Now for the (seasonal depression) music.
- Widescreen Baroque / Pretty Young (CW: flashing)
- Japanese electropop feels unavoidably indebted to Nakata Yasutaka sometimes. Although Widescreen Baroque sound like they’re trying to work directly from the original dance influences, you can still very much hear Nakata in here.
- Spangle call Lilli line / silence
- It’s been seven years since SCLL released music, so I think I can be forgiven for being confused by the sudden transition to funky, dancey indie pop.
- Split end / sleep sleep ★
- Listening to this, I suddenly realized my formative shoegaze song is in fact Stars’ “Sleep Tonight”.
- Suzukimikiko Zu / Blues (CW: suicide mention) ★
- Starting as slow lament, this song gradually builds towards a sudden rush of rhythm and emotional release.
- Omi Masato / grue (feat. Aramaki Yujin)
- Existentialism masquerading as ambient chill hop.
- zerobansen to yoakemae / Movies Where People Die (CW: death) ★
- Does Suga Azusa (ex. For Tracy Hyde) not write for enough shoegaze girl groups already? Apparently not!
- Haku. / Fuwa Rin
- Beach rock feels out of place in February, but perhaps we do need some.
- xiexie / sleeping in my car (CW: flashing)
- A perfect song to sleep in your car to.

Date: 2026-03-01 12:41 am (UTC)It's so unfortunate because Mizuno Mikiko really is one of the best choreographers out there. What could have been :(

Date: 2026-03-01 12:43 am (UTC)Niina’s gala is possibly my favourite gala program since Javi’s Aerobics Class. I don’t mind if she continues doing it for the next quad.
