(Unfortunately, the ISU has decided to hold Worlds with inadequate safety protocols and force skaters to attend, so let’s talk about fictional skating instead.)
Things about Yuri on Ice that were unrealistic when they aired but are more realistic now, updated list:
- four quads in a free — see previous post
- quad loop in competition — see above
- anyone willingly wearing the Skate Canada jacket outside of WTT or Olympics — more Canadian skaters started wearing them afterwards
- coach deciding to just adopt a coach-less skater — Stéphane Lambiel adopted Shoma Uno out of the blue at the 2019 Internationaux. (Well, it turns out it wasn’t quite out of the blue, Shoma had briefly hung out at Lambiel’s rink beforehand, but it certainly felt that way when it happened!)
