Monthly Listening: Jun 2025
Jul. 1st, 2025 10:23 pmMy laptop is either dying from age or heat, so I need to buy a new one. In the meantime I have braved 5 sec Youtube page load times to bring you the monthly listening!
- Ryutist / echo ★
- Sparkly idol pop with a light twang of retro guitar.
- muque / Carnival
- Fun pop punk song from muque’s latest album with a perfect festival chorus.
- Mononkul / Hotpot
- As someone who once had hotpot in an unconditioned patio during the intolerably hot and humid Taiwanese summer, I cannot recommend this song’s advice to sweat it out with summer hotpot. But it is catchy!
- Beachside talks / Hurts ★
- I am sure some melancholy shoegaze would make the summer heat better.
- rourourourous / Yurameki
- Dizzy whirlwind sparkly summer vibes.
- harmoe / Albireo no Ranbu ★
- Some anxious neo city pop courtesy of producers Technoboys.
- Mom / #Tenshi Yori mo Shotgun ga Hoshii
- I don’t know why I always end up liking songs with cheery melodies and hopelessly dark lyrics. The nihilism of the speaker in response to societal ills reminds me of the chuunibyou-ism of Terror in Resonance, but also could be interpreted in the context of the album title, The politics of AI and ephemeral moments.
- Togenashi Togeari / Fragile Violet
- I swear I’m not going to get into another anime music franchise even if the music is good.
- F!C!O! / Birders
- Did I include this just for the title? Yes. F and C are producers Fellsius and Carpainter; O is rapper OnJuicy.
- 171 / Footsteps
- Some good old punk.
Bonus: Festival Season
- Franz Ferdinand / Take Me Out feat. Peter Capaldi (Glastonbury 2025)
- Actor, Oscar-winning director, and Glasto headliner in my heart.
