I was wondering where the good music was and then everyone I like released albums in the last eight days of May.
- mitsume / Drive
- For all those summer roadtrip playlists.
- Bungeitengoku / plan-ted forest (Kyokuchi Kakeikaku) (CW: flashing, motion sickness)
- Happysad pop rock.
- Chilli Beans. / you n me (CW: motion sickness)
- Dream pop punk perfect for a Netflix teen romcom.
- Galileo Galilei / Guitar Bag ★
- A hopeful pop rock number off their first album in seven years.
- Sakamoto Maaya / Naimononedari
- Maaya’s latest album has songwriters from across j-indie, and this one composed by Arauchi Yu of cero features my favourite kind of Maaya music, experimental pop.
- cero / Sleepra
- Speaking of cero, they also have a new album out.
- No Party for Cao Dong / Daydream (Báirìmòng) ★
- In turns wistful and angry, this song (and the album it’s from) is dedicated to their drummer who passed away in 2021.
- SARI / Ai no Yurikago ★
- Glitchy experimental electropop.
- illiomote / Yakedo
- A softer take on house music.
- Wednesday Campanella / Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin)
- WedCamp dips out of poppy house music for a spell with a hardcore song and some familiar vocal fx.
- Käärijä / Cha Cha Cha (CW: flashing, alcohol mention)
- Song of the summer!
