video games
i got stuck on a hard boss on fantasian, gave up, finally unboxed my switch, realized hades’ railgun sucks on a switch, bought unravel two on sale, and therefore i’m playing kirby and the forgotten land.
i forgot what it was like to play relaxing, exploratory games. the difficulty level is perfect for me — it’s not easy, but it’s not frustrating either. (i play hades on god mode and my damage reduction percentage is sitting at 72% so ymmv.) it’s a great unwinding game. except for the timed treasure levels haha.
watching
❡ finally finally got around to watching turning red and it was so so good. instantly relatable, loved the friend squad, laughed out loud at the math counts mug. the rainbow heart in the 4*town concert scene though? i just know there’s a one direction fan in the production crew.
❡ i flipped through heartstopper at the bookstore, didn’t really think it was my thing. but i’ve been seeing it everywhere from people with similar tastes to me, so i tried to watch the show anyway. in the first two minutes i got so much 2nd-hand embarrassment that i to stop watching.
one of my guy friends said he couldn’t watch turning red because of 2HE and i was like what? i get 2HE sooo easily but not for turning red. with heartstopper though? i am mei ling hiding my bed.
❡ i regret to inform everyone that i am watching yet another — yes another — boyband audition show: atom boyz. i actually found out about this show from my mom’s complaints about the state of taiwanese television.
the show’s format does not really make sense. it takes the produce 101 format, introduces permanent teams with set concepts, and adds elements from one million star. it seems to be meant more for a general audience than a boyband sports fan one. there’s a lot of variety chat show banter, and almost zero behind the scenes footage before the first set of performances. anyway, we’ll see how the later eps are.
if you like girl groups, the girl group version, dd52, aired in 2020. i found out about that because they invited those contestants on to guest judge, and the three (!) debuted groups from that show to perform as guests. i love h.u.r., cringey english lyrics and all, but i’ll write more about them in my next music roundup!
makeup
so after my previous post, i found a taiwanese-american beauty vlogger who had used the same name of shade (if in a different product line) as the foundation i had been having issues with. and, strangely, i noticed the shades she was buying in that brand kept shifting lighter and more neutral. so i decided take a bit of a blind faith leap and buy a foundation that matched her. and it worked? the shade i bought ended up being almost identical to my skin. as it turns out i’m ever so slightly more neutral than her.
(i guess it worked because i’d decided on an east asian foundation brand — one whose products i’d used as a teen — because i figured if i was going to buy makeup sight unseen, i would lower my probability of screwing up by being in the target market.)
the downside of watching all of these videos is that, combined with my recent worse-than-usual-insomnia, i went down a deep dive of expensive korean eyeshadow palettes last night. i don’t even wear eyeshadow! i have near-new eyeshadow from 2013! what am i doing. that said, i suspect i might only look good in very light shades because i am very pale and have monolids that are only slowly going away now that i’m old. we’ll see if the local asian supermarket has any of the cheap asian brands.
writing
somehow in between dying of work deadlines, i managed to clean up and publish the next chapter of one of my fics. mostly by moving the section i was struggling with to the next chapter. that has been my modus operandi for this entire fic — “eh let’s just move this to the next chapter”.
this is actually the first fic i’ve really strictly planned with story beats — although i’ve wholly changed the outline of the last chapter twice now. anyway it’s nice to see what i like about this process and what i don’t on a lower stakes, shorter fic, before i tackle the longer wip i have that i’ve also outlined with this same process.

Date: 2022-06-07 04:17 am (UTC)It really is a trap! I’ve always been more of a foundation-only person. I did sparingly use eyeshadow at some point but always found the shades I was being recommended too dark for me. All of the soft pink and mauve colours coming out recently are so pretty, and are also shades I think could actually work on me.

Date: 2022-06-29 07:10 pm (UTC)i mostly want a pink/lavender palette rn, so i’m between wakemake lavender blurring and romand peony nude garden. i’d love to get the laka summer palette but i don’t think i can pull it off haha.
i just bought the 1028 poppy purely and it’s like… okay? i think i need to experiment more to get it to work on me.
the first few episodes of atom boyz is rough but after that it’s been pretty good! the episodes are uploaded in a few different ways — full episodes, just the team prep + performance (without judge commentary), and just the performance. they also upload some of the filler content as separate youtube videos so it’s rly easy to watch in smaller chunks.

Date: 2022-06-30 01:21 am (UTC)I'm also low-key looking for a lavender but then I remember that I already have lilac eyeshadow and never wear it except as blush ^^;

Date: 2022-06-30 01:54 am (UTC)i tend to wear pastels, so i think the laka might be too pigmented to match most of my outfits. it’s such nice colours though ;~;
