So while adding songs to my 2022 Q2 music list I noticed a foreboding trend — a majority of the songs were all ~*~mid-2000s nostalgia~*~. Way to instantly bring on an early midlife crisis. So, I’m just going to get these songs out of the way so I can return to compiling shoegaze dream pop without the passage of time looming over my head T_T
This post as a Youtube playlist :p
- Philosophy no Dance / Waterproof Night
- Filing this one right next to m-flo’s “miss you” (2003).
- CUBΣLIC / SBFM
- te’resa / Don’t slow me down
- Adding this one for the fake Winamp skin music video.
- Queendom / Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
- Time to hit the DDR machine! Or FFR for me. Anyway, Queendom is a special unit for this anime consisting of ⅖ths lol (hibiki & moca), ⅖ths Faky (Akina & Taki)※, and ⅐th Genic (Kaneya Maria). I should have guessed Avex was involved with this; they’ve been trying to revive para para for the past 5+ years. Surprisingly, this is a cover of a 2013 song.
- Prikil / Somebody
- An updated take on pop!pop punk along the lines of Tamaki Nami’s “High School Queen” (2004). Which is a cover of a 2003 Dutch song but, like, I didn’t know Limewire existed back then never mind how to discover music online. The K-pop-style rap verse and a booming brass make this song more 2020s than 2000s.
- Minami / Kono Machi ni Hare wa Konai
Anyway, time to go back to listening to the Harry’s House leak so I can feel less old. Except that also has several 2000s indie pop references =_=
※ Funnily enough, Faky was recently mentioned in the NYT because of former member Anna’s acting career. I do miss Anna-era Faky though.
