Fandom Alphabet: A, B, C, O, R — Ships

adevyishDecided I might as well do this! I’m posting these in sets organized by theme, since I don’t think anyone wants me to post 26 times in a row. Grabbed from naye.
Full list, if you want to do this yourself:
A: Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
I like ships where everyone is a BAMF and there’s a lot of banter. So some current ships, if by current I mean within the past year:
Weirdly I don’t tend to write fics for ships I would put on this sort of list, because I think if I can find the fic I want to read I don’t write it? I only write fic either for fests or because an idea started living in my head rent-free. Or in the case of Nervous Venus, if there are no fic.
B: A pairing – platonic, romantic or sexual – that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
This is my modus operandi honestly, since I will read any fic with an intriguing premise in a fandom I know something about, as long as it’s not one of my very few anti-ships. I am someone who gets into fandoms via fandom, not canon. Also, generally I don’t have ship goggles on when I read or watch stuff, unless it’s very obvious (Cardcaptor Sakura, Hikaru no Go) or very cracky (Prince of Tennis).
So the answer to what changed my mind is always “there was a good fic”, and the ships are e.g. every ship in Gundam Wing, since I genuinely did not ship anyone due to the canon, and KHR Xanxus/Squalo, since I never got through much of the canon and the doujinshi “Minami Italia Shinjuu” hit me like a sack of bricks.
C: A ship you have never liked and probably never will.
Like I said, I have very few anti-ships, and most of my anti-ships are due to fanon interpretation rather than any dislike for canon. I have a weird irrational hatred of ZukaFuji and MizuYuu from Tenipuri, the former because Tezuka isn’t really a compelling character for me and the fandom tendency to make Fuji an uke stereotype, and the latter because Yuuta is my son and I can’t forgive Mizuki.
(It is irrational! I love the “Slide” doujinshi series, which is FujiZuka, and I usually like Mizuki-type characters.)
O: Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?
I put all of the songs on my iPod on shuffle, and One Direction’s “C’mon C’mon” came on. I’ve never thought of this as a ship song, but it matches a lot of shy guy/outgoing girl pairings. Coming to a dance with another person but finding someone else? That’s Squall/Rinoa.
R: Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favourite in fandom?
My ultimate ship, one might say my One True Pairing, is Touya × Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura. They’re my platonic ideal of a relationship, a slightly gruff character and a sweet character with light teasing upon a solid bedrock of understanding and support. As a tween I wanted them to be my older brother and brother-in-law and I still sort of feel this way towards them.
Do I wish there were more longfic for them? Yes. Do I think they’re so perfect I cannot write any fic for them? Also yes.
