finally saw “promare” today!

beforehand, one coworker told me it was “trigger: best hits” and another coworker told me it was straightbaiting. i am glad to report it is both! the art direction was so fun and stylish; the script and music were incredibly tight. i love the total dispensation of realism for sheer style and chutzpah because it is done so well. (obviously the pinnacle of art direction in cg animated film is still “into the spiderverse” but this comes very close.)

there was an annoying man in the row ahead of us who kept commenting loudly on things (comment quietly!) but otherwise we had a good crowd. when deus x machina was introduced, the entire theatre laughed and applauded. when galo and lio kissed, the entire crowd hung in palpable silence as if waiting for one person to break it, and as soon as a girl in the back cheered everyone started whooping loudly. my brethren.

(the pre-roll included astroboy et al telling us to turn our cellphones off, cute.)
