During the BTS vs Block B “battle” stage at Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), Jimin ripped his shirt off and exposed two temporary tattoos: “NEVERMIND” in grafitti marker style and 『花樣年華』 (“blooming youth”) in Haengseo calligraphy. This would turn out to foreshadow BTS’s next year and a half of music.

A person (“OP”) tweeted (dead link) in Korean about their friend meeting Jimin. (Not sure of the exact date of the tweet, so I’m going with the 3rd since it was translated/went viral on the 3rd.) No screenshot of the original tweet, but it came with this photo:

After getting harassment from fans accusing them for lying, the OP made clarifications, then deleted all of their tweets. Clarification was roughly translated by dprdabin:

so basically jimin n manager came to that shop to talk about stuff for yr end stages. its a tattoo and painting (aka fake tats) so yeah sadly he didnt get a real tattoo. the op said sorry that they were misinformed by a friend n made mistakes and that he took everything down~

theyve been doing body paintings with bts for a while and that was the case for this time as well!

Jimin fansites began to post photos from MGA with a tattoo visible.

At 03:09 KST, Jimin fansite adelio posted a preview photo on Instagram. It is a close-up of Jimin’s chest where a tattoo is visible but not legible beneath Jimin’s see-through white shirt. This quickly spread on Twitter and was posted to r/bangtan on Reddit; English-speaking fans (“i-fans”) were suspicious of the photo.

At 16:24 KST, Jimin fansite MINANGEL tweeted a HQ photo of Jimin with the tattoo a visible shadow beneath his shirt. (This set of photos was not picked up by major Tumblr update accounts.)

At 17:08 KST, adelio tweeted the full-size HQ photo; the tail of the tattoo clearly read “RMIND” in spiky handwriting. (Mirror)

I-fans’ suspicions were assuaged with these further photos.

As the tattoo was a clear reference to Jimin’s temporary tattoo in his MAMA 2014 performance—same position, most likely the same words, different writing style—most i-fans assumed it was a temporary tattoo for an upcoming award show (like MAMA) or for the upcoming anniversary of the “Never Mind” video.
