Stole this questionnaire off [personal profile] chagrined.

1. How did you choose your DW username?
It’s the same as my now deleted LJ’s username. That username I came up with randomly as a bunch of sounds I liked at that point and it’s aged fairly well.

2. What has been your favourite day this year and why?
Eh. What’s a favourite day.

3. What is your favourite film you’ve seen in the past year and why?
I don’t really watch movies. In terms of anime, I’ve started and finished one this year, 91 Days, and it was very good.

4. What is your favourite book you’ve read in the past year and why?
I haven’t read any books this year! So as usual, I will cheat by naming a fanfic :p It’s not finished yet, but glimmering goddesses in the night absolutely has to be my favourite fic I’ve read this year. The tensions of being a child to East Asian parents, being a girl who likes the music scene and is a child to East Asian parents, and being a girl in a male-dominated space is conveyed so deeply it’s almost cathartic reading it.

5. You get to program a half-hour of music videos on MTV. What videos to you pick?
The question is, what timeslot on MTV! I do love a good music video, so here’s two half-hours of some of my favourites:

Recently I was listening to Stars’ album Set Yourself On Fire and I remembered: oh, this is why I fell in love with music, listening to the strings and brass of “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead” resonate sadness and jubilance. It’s not about living it up at shows, it’s not about finding new bands; it’s about how one song can make you feel like you’re dying and reborn again.

Not as cathartic for me to read it, but it was deeply satisfying to read. A+, would stay up till 4am reading it again.

And yes, Set Yourself On Fire was so, so good.

There is No Love is definitely one of their stronger albums in recent years. It seems they found their sense of urgency/desperation/passion again.
